The North Indian Basin, in terms of hurricane forecasting, covers the North Indian Ocean, or, regions of the Indian Ocean north of the equator. Tropical cyclones in this region of the world are known as "cyclones" and are named by the RSMC in New Delhi, India. Cyclones in the North Indian typically form in the period ranging from April to December.
In geography, and as a consequence meteorology, the North Indian Ocean is divided into two parts - the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Storms that have not reached considerable strength in the basin are designated with the prefix of "ARB" or "BOB" depending on where they are located.
